The US Army had quickly found that the basic armament*
of two 7.62mm machine guns on the M706 was often too*
light to be counted on in intense firefights.*
Troops in the field often added a number of weapons on*
improvised mounts to supplement the existing weapon turret.*
In an attempt to increase the firepower of the vehicle,*
a turret modified from the Armored Cavalry Assault Vehicle*
(ACAV) kit for the M113 was fitted with a 40mm automatic*
grenade launcher. It is likely this weapon was of the*
M75/M129 pattern.*
*
This unit is included as a what-if, as no vehicles with*
this turret were known to have been operationally deployed*
to South Vietnam. The M16 is provided as a realistic back-up*
as the turret featured no secondary weapon.*
